Terms of Service Launch app

This Privacy Policy explains how Janet Plan It (“Janet”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use our website and browser application at janetplanit.com (and related pages).

In short: Janet runs mainly in your browser. Your project data (tasks, organisations, costs, and related planning information) stays on your device unless you choose to save a file, print, export, or connect to Google Sheets. We do not operate a Janet user account database or receive your programme data on our servers for normal use of the app.

1. Who we are

Janet Plan It is a browser-based construction project planning tool. For privacy enquiries, contact us at calum.l.2010@gmail.com.

2. What Janet does (and what that means for privacy)

Janet lets you:

  • Edit a programme (task list) and organisation data in the browser.
  • View derived workspaces (task manager, Gantt, status board, cost monitoring, and similar views).
  • Save and load project bundles (for example .cll files) on your device.
  • Optionally import from or export to Google Sheets when you sign in with Google or use a public, link-shared sheet.
  • Install the site as a progressive web app (PWA) and use cached files for offline access after the app has loaded.

Processing of project content is performed locally in your browser. We do not need your project data to provide the core service, and we do not ask you to upload programme files to Janet’s servers.

3. Information stored on your device

Janet uses browser storage to remember your work and preferences. This may include:

  • Project content you enter in tables and views (tasks, dates, dependencies, owners, costs, payment flags, organisation structure, and similar fields).
  • UI preferences (for example active workspace tab, board time scale, Gantt timeline position, and app settings you configure).
  • Cached copies of programme or organisation HTML used to speed up or restore views.
  • Google Sheets connection details if you use that feature (spreadsheet ID, selected sheet tab names, and whether you marked the sheet as public/link-shared). This is stored in localStorage on your device.

You can clear this data by clearing site data for janetplanit.com in your browser, starting a new project in the app, or removing the PWA. Saving a .cll file creates a copy under your control on your device or cloud storage.

4. Google Sign-In and Google Sheets (optional)

If you choose Sign in with Google or use Google Sheets import/export, Janet loads Google Identity Services and communicates with Google’s APIs. In that case:

  • Google handles authentication according to Google’s Privacy Policy.
  • An access token is held in your browser session (in memory) so Janet can call the Google Sheets API on your behalf while you are signed in.
  • When you import or export, task and organisation data you select is sent between your browser and Google to read or update the spreadsheet you specify.
  • If you use a public / link-shared sheet without signing in, Janet may request sheet data from Google’s servers (for example via Google’s public export endpoints) using the spreadsheet URL or ID and tab names you provide. No Janet account is involved; Google still processes the request.

We do not receive or store your Google password. OAuth client configuration is embedded in the app so Google can identify the Janet application; optional API keys used for public sheet features, if enabled by the site operator, are also visible in the client code, similar to standard web apps.

5. Files, printing, and exports

  • Save / Quick Save writes a project file to a location you choose (where your browser and operating system support it).
  • Load reads a file you select. Janet does not automatically upload that file to us.
  • Printing uses your browser’s print dialog (including “Save as PDF” if your browser offers it); output stays under your control.
  • CSV, JSON, XML import/export processes files locally or through downloads you initiate.

6. Service worker and offline use

Janet registers a service worker that caches static app files (HTML, scripts, styles, and related assets) so the app can load faster and work offline after you have opened it. The service worker does not send your project tables to us; it serves cached copies of the application itself.

7. Third-party services and content

When you use Janet, your browser may contact:

  • Google — Identity Services, Sheets API, and optionally Material Icons / fonts hosted by Google (fonts.google.com, Material Icons). Google’s terms and privacy policies apply to those services.
  • Your browser vendor — for core rendering, storage, file pickers, and printing.

We do not use third-party advertising networks or behavioural analytics tools in the Janet application code at the time of this policy. If that changes, we will update this page.

8. What we do not do

  • We do not sell your personal data.
  • We do not require registration with Janet to use the core app.
  • We do not routinely collect programme content on our own servers when you use Janet only in the browser.

9. Legal bases (UK / EEA users)

Where UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on:

  • Contract / steps at your request — to provide the app when you use it.
  • Legitimate interests — to operate, secure, and improve the website (for example caching, fixing errors, and understanding aggregate technical issues if we use server logs for the static site).
  • Consent — where you sign in to Google or otherwise connect Google Sheets; you can withdraw consent by signing out and disconnecting Sheets in the app.

10. International transfers

If you use Google services, your data may be processed by Google in the United States and other countries under Google’s own safeguards. Static pages may be served from hosting providers in jurisdictions chosen by us or our host.

11. Retention

  • On your device: until you clear browser storage or delete saved project files.
  • Google: according to Google’s policies and your Google account settings.
  • Contact emails: as long as needed to respond and meet legal obligations.

12. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including the UK and EEA), you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object, or port personal data we hold about you, and to complain to a supervisory authority (in the UK, the ICO: ico.org.uk).

Much of your Janet data is controlled by you locally; erasing site data in your browser or deleting project files is often the quickest way to remove it. For requests relating to data we hold, email calum.l.2010@gmail.com.

13. Children

Janet is intended for business and professional project planning. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

14. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change, and continued use of Janet after changes means you accept the updated policy where permitted by law.
