These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Janet Plan It (“Janet”, “we”, “us”, “our”) at janetplanit.com and the related web application (collectively, the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Janet is a browser-based tool for construction and project planning. It includes features such as:
- A programme / task list and schedule fields.
- Organisation and reporting-line data.
- Task manager, Gantt timeline, status board, and cost monitoring views derived from your data.
- Local save/load of project files, import/export in common file formats, and optional Google Sheets connectivity.
- Optional installation as a progressive web app (PWA) for offline use of cached application files.
We may change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. We try to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
2. Who may use Janet
You must be able to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction. If you use Janet on behalf of a company, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation. The Service is intended for business and professional use, not for consumers’ personal non-business affairs where different laws may apply.
3. Your data and responsibilities
3.1 Your content
“Your content” means programme data, organisation data, financial figures, notes, and other information you enter, import, or generate in Janet. You retain ownership of your content. You grant us only the limited rights needed to operate the Service in your browser (for example, processing your tables locally to draw charts).
3.2 Accuracy and decisions
You are solely responsible for the accuracy of your content and for decisions you make using Janet (including dates, dependencies, costs, payment status, and resource assignments). Janet does not verify your data against real-world site conditions, contracts, or regulations.
3.3 Backups
Janet stores working data primarily in your browser. You should regularly save project files (.cll or
exports you trust) and maintain your own backups. We are not responsible for loss of data due to browser clearing,
device failure, or user error.
4. Google Sheets and third-party services
Optional Google Sign-In and Google Sheets import/export are subject to Google’s terms and privacy policy. You must only connect spreadsheets you are permitted to access. Importing from a public link-shared sheet is your choice; you must ensure sharing settings match your organisation’s rules.
We are not responsible for Google outages, API changes, account suspensions, or data handled by Google after it leaves Janet.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service unlawfully or in violation of others’ rights.
- Attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer, or overload the Service or related infrastructure.
- Introduce malware or misuse Janet to distribute harmful code (bearing in mind much processing is local).
- Misrepresent Janet as providing legal, engineering, quantity surveying, or financial advice.
6. Intellectual property
Janet’s software, branding, documentation, and site design are owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you rights to our trademarks or to copy the Service except as needed for normal use in the browser.
7. Free service
Janet is offered without charge at the time of these Terms (“free for you forever” as described on our home page). We may introduce paid features or sponsorship in the future; we will communicate material changes separately where required.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or accuracy of outputs (including Gantt dates, critical path logic, cost totals, or board columns).
9. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (including death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).
Subject to that, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or business interruption, arising from your use of the Service.
Our total liability to you for all claims arising from the Service in any twelve-month period is limited to £100 or the amount you paid us for the Service in that period (if any), whichever is greater.
10. Indemnity
You will indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your use of the Service, or your breach of these Terms, except to the extent caused by our intentional misconduct or negligence.
11. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information. It forms part of these Terms.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will post the new version on this page with an updated date. Material changes may also be highlighted on the site. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance where the law allows.
13. Termination
You may stop using Janet at any time. We may restrict or terminate access if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. Provisions that by nature should survive (including disclaimers, liability limits, and governing law) will survive.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers in the UK or EEA may have mandatory rights to bring claims in their country of residence where applicable law requires.
